Lviv (Ukraine), June 19 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Sunderland and Denmark striker Nicklas Bendtner has been fined 100,000 euros and banned for one international match for displaying the name of a betting company on his underpants in a Euro 2012 game.
Bendtner pulled down his shorts to reveal underpants with the name of Paddy Power, an Irish gambling firm, after scoring for Denmark in their 2-3 defeat to Portugal Wednesday.
"This suspension applies to the next 2014 FIFA World Cup match, including the qualifying competition, for which Bendtner is eligible," UEFA said in a website statement.
"The player has also been fined 100,000 euros."
He can appeal within three days of a full written decision being sent out, UEFA said, without specifying when it would be sent.
Bendtner was charged with "improper conduct" under law four of the Laws of the Game, which covers players' clothing.
An amendment to the law specifically bans players revealing" undergarments showing slogans or advertising".
Bendtner is the only player to have been punished by UEFA at Euro 2012, although six national football associations have been hit with charges.
Including the Bendtner case, UEFA has levied fines totalling 290,000 euros for various offences at Euro 2012, with several cases still to be heard.
