Dean Jones says Tendulkar should be put out to ODI pasture

Melbourne, Feb 25(ANI): Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones has called on the Indian selectors to drop Sachin Tendulkar from the one-day squad.

He pointed out that India could take a lesson from the Australian selectors who have dropped batsman Ricky Ponting from the one-day squad.

"India, on the other hand, has no selector with the courage to tell Tendulkar his one-day career is over, no matter how badly he might be playing. People are worried their homes could be damaged if they are seen to have removed Tendulkar against his will. He will keep playing for as long as he likes, and thus, lies the problem for India," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Jones, as writing in an article.

He also pointed out that Tendulkar is undergoing a slump in his career, marking a departure from the last year when he had smashed an unbeaten 200 in the ODIs.

He highlighted the fact that contemporary cricketers realise that they can earn a huge amounts of money in cricket, and, they will play for as long as possible to reap every benefit.

"After spending all your life practising and working as a professional cricketer, it is very hard to say goodbye to the game and its money. I have often wondered when Ponting and Tendulkar have fully retired, what will they both do in life? I have no clue and, I suspect, neither do they. So why not keep playing?" the article concluded. I cant see indian team win without sachin .. Youngsters had great chance to show their talent but none of them even score 50 and forget about win the game for india single handly..

Why Sachin has to leave .. How many games raina need more to prove he has got talent...

Sachin at their age and played the same no of matches win matches for india on his own..

Sachin dont have to leave or retire no matter what other former cricketers say coz they were never a great player themselves and they think they know cricket more than me.. suckers

First youngesters show their talent potetenial whatever and win matches for india then Sachin think of his retirement

Mr. dean Jones.. We do not require any of your advice, Ponting Has been asked to leave because ACB felt that he has no future.. where as Sachin will quit the game as soon as he realizes that he will not be able to perform... and Indian selectors Knows that... you cant ask a player to quit if he fails in one series... there are other 10 players also in the team.. check their scores .. performance. If all other batsman except Sachin will be making good runs that we can say that sachin should leave.. but young guns like raina/ rohit sharma and even sehwag are not performing well.. so According to your theory all should retire... wait Sachin will show his Class in next game...

Tendulkar is done. No need to drop him, the people loves to see their team lose but the God has to be there, and poor Manoj Tiwary is still sitting outside. What a shame!

Perfect Yeah. and if Youngsters don't perform a single match or a particular tour then they are criticized. But someone who has played official cricket for 23yrs + and does not perform, he is said to be under pressure, it is said that he cannot be expected to play every match and what not. No Wonder our Politicians are at an average 75years plus. obviously Cricketers will play 50years plus. And then these same people will wonder why India cannot perform. Hypocrites.

      Ian Chappell in 2007
At the moment, he looks like a player trying to eke out a career; build on a glittering array of statistics, if he really is playing for that reason and not to help win as many matches as he can for India, then he is wasting his time and should retire immediately.”

      Ian Chappell in 2010
It’s not just the number of runs he’s scored in this prolific period (although four Test centuries in six innings is pretty impressive); rather it’s the manner of his run-gathering. In his scintillating 175 against Australia and the double-century that demolished South Africa, it was his dominance that stood out. Both innings rattled along at much better than a run-a-ball,s and when he is regularly punching drives off the back foot you know Tendulkar is master of all he surveys.
      Kapil Dev in 2007
“Sachin Tendulkar should retire. A player should know when his time is over, like Gavaskar. People asked him, why now? Instead of why not retiring.”

      Kapil Dev in 2010
“Sachin has touched several milestones during his 20-year career in the international cricket. He certainly deserves the Bharat Ratna. We will be very happy if he gets the highest honour of the country, Even if Sachin would have got a duck in this innings, still I would say that he deserves the honour. No decision should be taken on the basis of performance in one match, but I am keeping in mind his overall contribution.”

Why is only Tendulkar held for the shameful performance of entire Indian batting line-up..and for your kind information Mr.Jones..Ponting was the only under-performer in Oz side..rest all playing best..so no doubt he shall go.

people like it or not..but if there is a discussion about the retirement of a sports person.. it is a big dicgrace to that person.. and the individual is responsible for that...Sports can accomodate very few people at any point of time , not like movie industry which can accomadate 3 generations persons as heros in the movies..

for a instence i agree and dis agree with jones, first he is right in praising aussie selectores for droppin ponting its their nature to axe those who are responsible for their glory, but we Indians have sense of humanity as we respect who is responsible for our glory and let him take his time when he is ready to quit . Sachin is no kidddo who has to be told when is the time he knows it when his body n mind r leaving him from his love. So jones please keep your mouth SHUTTT u r not a fraction of sachin n DARE NOT COMMENT + forget about selectors they r bunch of crooks .

Deano was kicked out of the commentary box for his bad mouth. Now, he should be banned from writing articles of such a bad taste which has no justified stuff.

hard 2 accept fact isnt it blind follower of tendulkar. at least these ppl have guts to take strong decisions this is y they ruled cricket for so long ,even legends like hayden, gillchrist were not spared when they stopped performing , but most of ppl here r weak minded. y do u worry we would have youngsters more talented than sachin , have patience. emotional attachment with a cricketer at the cost of nations pride is useless. if jones is unjustified then is kapil dev too justified or majority of sensible ppl mad & sum buch of emotional fools only sensible
      • Vijaya krishnan 3 months ago
Dean Jones is absolutely right. See, players like Gichrist and Warne could have played five more years , had they not retired from ODI. Their performance in IPL shows that. Thendulkar should retire now by keeping his collar up before somebody from the selectors show him the door out.
      • Shrinath 3 months ago
@ Anubhav- Failing to score in 4 innings is no criteria to drop him. When youngsters like Raina and Rohith are given such a long rope, over a long period of time, why don't have patience to wait and see. These 2 guys were in out so many times for bad performance's, still they were given chances because so they are youngsters. Because Sachin is a senior, does he not have the liberty of playing some more matches to get back to shape. Ganguly had a very bad patch for a long time when he was the captain. Kapil also went through the same and all past greats. But, they all bounced back.

jones u sud see the batting avg of tendulkar after smashing 200 in ODI.............its better than before...........so in my view he is a perfect batsman........u r saying so bcoz u know india can onli be histry like austrlia if tendulkar retires................so plz shut up.........ok

I think Tendulkar needs a break so he dont have pressure of his team doing poorly because of him, having few games off.. playing domestic cricket, if he is keen to make 100th 100 and feeling in good form he can back in team. Simple

the game has become a big bore and these days big purse spoiled the real value of this royal game, players are greedy for money, and a lot of politics involved....it takes the beauty of the game......

It would appear that common sense at times is much better than the decisions taken by experts such as team management, captain of the team, etc. Even if we leave out Tendulkar controvery many decision taken by Dhoni or team managent are beyond understanding. Why is Irfan sent so low in the order? With his ability and hunger he should be sent bfore Raina, Jadeja, and Dhoni himself.
Similarly why is Sehwag not sent 2 or 3 down is beyond compehension. Seems once he is gone the team folds. May be he will get more inspired after after seeing the results of first two players.
Dhoni should relieve pressure on himself by giving up wicket keeping to Dinesh Karthik and concentrate on his betting and remaining the best captain that he has been.
