Guwahati, June 27: Veteran organiser Jamshed Khan was elected president and Manindra Nath Saikia the general secretary of the Dibrugarh District Sports Association (DDSA) at its annual general meeting held today.
While Khan, the general secretary in the outgoing executive committee, was elected unanimously, Saikia faced a contest with former treasurer Gyan Prakash Sarma. Saikia, who was the president in the outgoing dispensation, polled 43 votes against 25 by Sarma in the elections that was held after a long gap of nearly two decades.
Elections were also held for the post of badminton secretary where Narul Akhtar Hussain defeated Manas Pratim Chetia 35-32.
All the other office-bearers were elected uncontested to different posts.
Rajib Gogoi was elected the working president and Plaban Baruah, Sanjibananda Borgohain and Ramesh Phukan the vice-presidents. Sahabuddin Ahmed was elected the treasurer.
Manoranjan Das was elected the joint secretary and Karunjyoti Saikia and Anjan Baruah the assistant general secretaries. Jayanta Bijay Sarma (football), Nabajyoti Mohan (cricket), Rajdeep Bhuyan (table tennis), Rajib Saikia (athletics) and Anuj Baruah (volleyball) were elected sectional secretaries.
Sachindra Lal Bhuyan and Ramen Dhar were elected secretaries of the referee board and the umpire's board respectively.
