Calcutta: South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn insists he has no intention to change his approach despite the new surroundings awaiting the Proteas in the Super Eights of the World T20.
Following two victories in Hambantota, South Africa now moves on to Colombo for their Super Eights programme.
Steyn returned the phenomenal T20 figures of three off 19 from six overs in the wins over Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, the latter of which was reduced to seven-overs-per-side.
The right-armer is clear in his mind that he sees no reason to adjust his game for whatever surface awaits him at the R Premadasa Stadium.
"After playing in England on the slow decks I think we adjusted our game quite nicely there," Steyn said. "So if we go to Colombo it won't hit us as a train smash.
"My game is not going to change, I'm still going to bowl 145 (km/h) or 150, whatever I can get it up to, whether it's a slow deck or not, it's still going to be tough."
Despite making his T20I debut in 2007, Steyn has only played in 25 such matches due to the need to find some time to rest during an exacting international programme.
"One of the main reasons I don't play a lot of international T20 cricket is purely because of the amount of other cricket that I play; one day cricket and Test cricket," Steyn explained.
"The other thing is that I'm really committed to the Proteas doing well. If I had to go and play international T20s too you'd find guys like Parney (Wayne Parnell) and may be Lopsy (Lonwabo Tsotsobe), players that don't play as much IPL cricket like I do, missing out."
As a bowler who offers both a wicket-taking threat and economy, Steyn can expect to not be sitting out any cricket over the remainder of his side's WT20 campaign, starting with Friday's game against either Pakistan or Bangladesh.
Steyn also appreciated team management's decision to afford the squad a 48-hour break at a luxury beach in Bentota, ahead of their Super Eights campaign, saying it was a well deserved and much needed break. The right-arm fast bowler said that they have been on road over the last 90 days and missing training for a couple of days would not affect their preparations as such.
"I think it's highly important that you find time to get away from this game," Steyn added.
"Gary (Kirsten) and Paddy (Upton) and everyone from the management are doing a fantastic job of finding time for us to get away from the game, especially when you have been away from home for close to 90 days."
