Dalai Lama offers prayers in McLeod Ganj for Tibet martyrs

Dharamshala, Sep 23(ANI): Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, on Friday presided over prayers in Himachal Pradesh for the martyrs of the Tibet's freedom struggle.

The prayer service was held at Tsuglagkhang, the main Buddhist temple in McLeod Ganj, located in the suburbs of Dharamshala.

Thousands of Buddhist monks and Tibetans-in-exile were seen gathering at the temple and paying homage to those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle.

"There is a pooja session going on that is led by the Dalai Lama, and many other Tibetan religious leaders, gathered here to pray in memory and paying homage to people, those who have died for the sake of Tibet, for the freedom of Tibet, and for a free Tibet. So, there are thousands of people who have gathered here and it is to remember them," said Lobsang Wangyal, a Tibetan.

The Department of Religion and Culture of the Central Tibetan Administration had organised the prayer in memory of all those Tibetans who sacrificed their lives for the cause of freedom of Tibet from the control of China.

Along with the newly elected Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay, over four thousand Tibetan Buddhists, monks and nuns, foreigners and the heads of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism participated in the prayer service.

In 1960, the Dalai Lama called for the democratisation of the Tibetan administration and promulgated a constitution for a future Tibet, based on principles of modern democracy. Based on it, since then the people have been choosing members of the parliament-in-exile.

An estimated 80,000 Tibetans, along with the Dalai Lama, arrived in India in 1959 after an unsuccessful uprising against Chinese rule. (ANI)

Tibet Politics is fruitless. It led to bad relation with China for a long time. This is a high time when India should redefine its foreign policy. Its Fact that Tibet is the part of China and everyone in the world has acknowledged it. This Tibet policy is the main reason for Terrorism in North East infused by China with the help of its Mayanmar partner. India should understand that one cannot save others when his own life is on stake!
