If you knew what the Spanish word for stock exchange was or that Symbian Anna was an operating system launched by mobile phone makers Nokia, then you would have stood a pretty good chance at a management quiz organised by Siva Sivani Institute of Management (SSIM) at Jamshedpur's Michael John Auditorium on Monday.
The quiz, which was held in association with The Teleg raph by the Secunderabad-based institute, packed in seven rounds with participation from 26 students of five colleges. The competing cradles were Jamshedpur Women's College, Karim City, Jamshedpur Co-operative College, NIT-Jamshedpur and Usha Martin Academy.
Quizmaster Shubhojit Bhattacharya kept challenging the grey cells of the participants throughout the event, posing questions on the business world and corporate honchos, most of which managed to stump the students.
"The quiz was organised to help those who have keen interest in business. This was the first time we organised the event in the city and the response was overwhelming," said B.S. Rao, SSIM's director of business strategy.
He added that next year, they would hold the event at the national level.
The participants, who had to get past 25 questions at the inaugural round, pitted their wit against each other in the later rounds, which included Take your Pick, Who am I, general, visual and rapidfire.
While Take your Pick was a multiple question round, Who Am I needed the participants to come out with the answer based on three clues given to them.
In the sixth round, called Tag Line, the participants had to identify a brand or a company from its tagline only. The final round, Rapidfire, proved to be the trickiest, wherein the students had to answer six questions within a time period of 45 seconds only.
Ranjana Kumari and Ankur Kumar of Karim City College trumped competitions from others to emerge winners. NIT-Jamshedpur's Khalid Iqbal Akhtar and Prabhat Kumar ended as runner-up.
For those who are still wonderi ng, the Spanish word for stock exchange is Bolsa.
