Congress slams Imam Bukhari for supporting Samajwadi Party

Lucknow, Jan 29 (ANI): Congress general secretary, Digvijay Singh here slammed senior Muslim cleric Syed Imam Bukhari for showing support to the Samajwadi Party (SP) in the upcoming state polls in Uttar Pradesh.

While addressing a news conference on Saturday, Singh reminded of Bukhari's fatwa in 2004 to vote for Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the BJP.

"Speaking from Kalyan Singh's constituency, Imam Bukhari has clearly shown how much he is in favour of communal harmony. He is the same person who had issued a fatwa in 2004 to vote for Atal Behari Vajpayee and the BJP," said Singh.

Singh was referring to a 2004 fatwa issued by Bukhari, which urged the Muslim community to shed the vote-bank politics mindset and support BJP, as there was a "visible change" in the BJP's stand towards the minority community.

Rapping further Digvijay Singh said that Samajwadi Party supremo had himself made a comment that Bukhari should remain indulged in religion instead of intervening in politics.

"I would also like to remind Mulayam Singh Yadav, who himself made a statement about Imam Bukhari, that he should remain indulged in religion and not get involved in politics. I don't need to mention other things about him," he added.

Mulayam Singh had recently, in his reply to a letter from Bukhari, accused the UPA government of cheating the Muslims by promising 4.5 per cent reservation for minorities, and not for Muslims alone, he had said that the SP was in favour of reservation for Muslims in education and employment.

This move has been seen as an attempt to garner the 18 percent Muslim vote base in UP.

In reaction to Mulayam's reply, Bukhari said that Muslims in Uttar Pradesh should support the SP and blasted the Congress for the deplorable condition of the Muslims in the state.

Elections in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven-phases. The polls are being viewed as an opportunity for India's major parties to re-establish or strengthen their footholds in the most populous state.

In the fray are the incumbent Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), state's main opposition SP, alongside the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Muslim votes in Uttar Pradesh hold a key role in determining who will come in power hence all political parties seek their support by offering various sops during elections. (ANI)

I think Mr Bukhari tells correctly for the first time in his life that Muslims not required for any special quota, here in India we are living very peacefully and enjoyed all sorts of life, capable Muslims are going forwards in all fields, and even if BJP comes in power, no need for any patriot Muslim to be fear. During the regime Mr Vajpayee also, Muslims were safe, so no need of Mr Bukhari or any one to guide Muslims to give votes to any particular party, let them decide themselves.

Why play in the name of religion and divide the people and the country, too? Cann't we all exercise our brains and judge by ourselves what is most suitable and should come? Appealing to groups in the name of religion should be banned.

For a change, Congress slamming machine has now turned inside the family. It is a very good match between the made for each other. Now Bukhari should not leave here and take this disgrace. He should issue to major fatwa against key Congress leaders and Congress.

Let the religious heads to take their own decision. Why does the great political party in India worry about it?It is high time for all political parties to take a secular stand. They should not seek or blame the support of religious party.A party that blame or praise a religious party is not is not purely secular in spirit.Let the religious leaders take their own stand. Why does the congress worry about it?

IMAM BUKHARI VS CONGRESS ON UP ELECTION

If Congress sows seed of destruction, they cannot reap different. Your appeasing is what is going to destroy you.

Imam is known to talk akin to taking the law unto his hand. You did not control him, against for vote bank stake.

Let you reap what you sow.

So far they were appreciating the Imam and wooed him for Muslim votes but now it is someone else doing it. Why be jealous?

I think that the Muslim community must have realised by now that all political parties put up some gimmick before the polls to garner their vote support. ALL COMMITMENTS MADE ARE INSTANTLY FORGOTTEN as soon as the poll results are declared. then it back to the usual game. Now all communities should realise the game of these politicians and start voting for the party which has shown results or feel that if this party is voted into power some developement will take plce.

it seems Mullah had received less money from Digvijay than SP, otherwise why should he change side. In India all have free choice to vote anywhere, why is this disturbing Congress?

Exposes congress's real intend. They are appeasing the Muslim's only for vote and not with real concern for them.

Poor congress! Despite the party's perpetual appeasement policy since period prior to even Independence, they have failed miserably time and again in wooing Muslims "en mass".

muslims will not indulge in vote bank politics if they sympathise with the massacre and ethnic cleansing of hindus in kashmir and genocide of hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh
