Ahmedabad, Oct 8 (ANI): As the war of words ahead of the Gujarat assembly polls intensifies, Congress Party on Monday promised to empower women in the state in its attempt to garner public support.
The President of Gujarat Congress, Arjun Modhwadia, said that the party's manifesto was women oriented. The gifts promised include houses to be owned by women, jobs for youth, laptops for students and 16 hours of electricity for farmers.
"Till date, over 5 million women have applied for our housing policy wherein a house will be constructed in 100 yards in rural areas. As a result of which today's event has witnessed massive presence of women. This would be one of India's largest women' empowerment programmes, which will enable women to own their houses. This is an ambitious project in which public have installed their trust," he said.
Highlighting the other policies that the Congress intends to bring in its endeavor to
replace the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat, Modhwadia said : "The students would be handed out laptops, youth would be empowered with jobs, farmers will get 16 hours of electricity supply and cheapest tariff for petrol and diesel other than 12 cylinders per annum for each household."
It may be recalled here that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had earlier charged the Congress Party of defaming his state and also upped the ante on the allegation that the Central Government has spent a sum of Rs.1880 crores on Sonia Gandhi's foreign trips.
The two-phase polls will take place in Gujarat on December 13 and 17. Counting will take place on December 20. (ANI)
