Patna, Feb. 21: Students and teachers of Magadh Mahila College are pouring in to get registered to the new Wi-Fi system that the institute had introduced a fortnight ago.
The college has become the first institute under Patna University (PU) to get a Wi-Fi campus. The move is a step towards making the institution student centric and to get accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (Naac).
Members from Naac are likely to visit the college in May for an assessment. The college is the second institution after AN College in Patna to have such a campus. At present, a dozen students and around 30 teachers have registered and officials said the number would increase manifold.
With the Wi-Fi connectivity, students and faculty members can easily access the Internet sitting at any corner of the college. The requirement for using such a facility is that students and faculty members' laptops, computers or Aakash tablets should be registered with the college administration.
PU is one of those universities where students would get Aakash tablets at just Rs 1,138. The market price of a low-cost computer tablet is around Rs 3,000.
Dolly Sinha, the college principal, said: "We are among the first under PU to have a Wi-Fi campus. The students have been demanding it for long."
Sikha Sharma, a student of the college, said: "We have been demanding a Wi-Fi campus for long. Now that we have got it, we can easily access the Internet from anywhere in the campus. The new connectivity would help the students, particularly those into information technology courses."
An official of the college said: "To get registered under the Wi-Fi system, the students will have to submit their identity cards and a letter from their head of the department concerned. Once registered, the administration will provide a password to the student to surf the Internet."
