New Delhi: The I-League clubs, who held a meeting in Mumbai on Tuesday have demanded that the AIFF should share the television revenue generated from the league with the participating clubs.
Speaking from Mumbai, one of the club officials said: "Except Pailan Arrows and HAL, all other clubs attended the meeting. Apart from television revenue sharing, we have some other demands also. The I-League should be run by a separate body in the way it is done in England, Germany and other developed countries.
"These are serious issues. To resolve these, we have requested the federation to hold a meeting as soon as possible," the official said. The meeting, it was learnt, was held at the initiative of a top Pune FC official.
The club officials felt that though the AIFF had signed a Rs 700-crore sponsorship deal for 15 years, nothing has been given to the participating teams.
They also pointed out in the meeting that more than 80 per cent of the money generated in football comes from sponsors and very little could be earned through sale of tickets.
A senior AIFF office bearer said: "We have no problem in meeting the clubs and discuss important issues.
"At the same time, the clubs should also try to find out why their matches in the league are so poorly attended. Except a couple of clubs, others seem to have no support base at their respective home grounds."
