Calcutta: Triple Olympic hockey gold winner Leslie Claudius, who was admitted to Calcutta Medical Research Institute on Tuesday, is better.
"He was suffering from ascites when admitted. Water had accumulated in his liver," said Sudeshna Lahiri, the assistant medical superintendent of CMRI. "He is recovering well and much better now, though not in a condition to be released soon," said Sudeshna.
Hospital sources said that the 85-year-old Claudius was home sick and requested the doctors to release him as early as possible. He was also suffering from cirrhosis of liver.
Sports minister Madan Mitra visited him at the hospital on Saturday afternoon and spent around 30 minutes.
