How many times has India won Olympic gold? No, don't just count Abhinav Bindra in 2008, there are many hockey golds to reckon with, some even before Independence.
It was in questions like this that the coal town clearly outclassed Bokaro at the Inter School Limca Book of Records Quiz Competition hosted by Calcutta-based Derek 'Brien and Associates at Carmel School in Dhanbad on Monday, where the hosts won a thumping entry to the nationals.
Of the 20 schools that came for preliminary screening, only one ' Guru Govind Singh Public School ' was from Bokaro. By the time six teams from six schools had made it to the on-stage final, it was an all-Dhanbad show.
This morning at 10.30, 120 students from Classes IX to XII ' three teams of two members each per school ' took part in the preliminary round. They spent 30 minutes answering 30 questions.
Six teams, one each from Carmel School-Dhanbad, Delhi Public School, De Nobili School (CFRI), De Nobili School (CMRI), DAV Public School (Koylanagar) and DAV Public School (Lodna), competed in the final war of wits.
Emcees Shaun Ward and Debajyoti Mazumdar conducted the quiz with flair and wit. The top six teams also handled tough posers in general, visual, audio and buzzer rounds.
Winners Shreya Jha and Aakhya Sinha of Class X, Carmel, will take part in the nationals next month. "The Carmel team will compete with winners of other city teams," said quizmaster Mazumdar.
