    Budding techies' field day

    Patna, Feb. 3: The two-day annual athletics meet of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Patna, commenced at the college today.

    BIT director V.V. Giri hoisted the college flag to herald the opening of the event. The students of BIT participated in the meet and there were separate categories for men and women.

    Speaking on the occasion, Giri said: "Sports not only help build a healthy body but also a healthy mind. By participating in sports, students get a chance to show their atheletics skills."

    The director said engineering students usually remain confined to studies. But sports events give them an opportunity to come out of books for a while, he added.

    The students were divided into four categories ' team A representing electronics and communication students, team B comprising electronics and electrical engineering students, team C of computer science students team D comprising students of civil, production, information technology and mechanical engineering.

    In the 1,500m race (male), Ravikant Kumar emerged the winner, in shot put (male), G. Anurag Reddy stood first. In the women's category of shot put, Arushi Singh was the winner. In long jump (male) Ashok Kujur stood first, in javelin throw (women) Kalyani Singh stood first, while in the men's category Rahul Kumar emerged the winner.
