Gangtok, Oct 23 (ANI): Hundreds of devotees and monks converged at the Nor Gumpa Monastery in Gangtok to pray for victims who had lost their lives in the September 18 earthquake.
The forty-first Sakya Trizin, who is considered the supreme head of Sakya lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, led the traditional rituals.
Devotees from Nepal, West Bengal and Darjeeling also participated in the prayers in the hope that they would help avert such disasters in the future.
"We are offering our prayers to gods so that such a natural disaster does not affect the state in the future," said Dorjee, a devotee.
Mass prayers were organized as the Buddhist monks performed a fire ritual on the occasion.
"We have requested all the state governments that all the deceased' names are collected and their names are being put in the fire, so it will deliver their souls in the higher realm," said Kunga Younten, a Buddhist monk.
At least 82 people died and more than 100 were injured, houses were destroyed and major communication lines snapped in the earthquake.he central agencies are working round the clock to bring normalcy back to region as quickly as possible.(ANI)
