Bollywood box-office report of the week

This Friday will witness an interesting clash between Akshay Kumar's Paresh Rawal starrer OMG OH MY GOD! and Priyadarshan's KAMAAL DHAMAAL MALAMAAL. As both films belong to the comic genre, they will damage each other. It would be interesting to see which of the two films will turn out as the front runner!

Last Friday's Madhur Bhandarkar directed Kareena, Arjun and Randeep starrer, HEROINE, had a decent first day but showed no pick up on Saturday and negligible growth on Sunday, and ended the weekend netting around 22.50 crore (to be validated). As we had predicted, the film took a big hit from BARFI! at the multiplexes, and additionally saw diminishing collections during the weekdays. Given that fact that HEROINE has a total cost of 31-32 crore (21-22 crore budget plus 10 crore for print and publicity/acquisition), the film will be lucky to get to even an average status, more so due to the fact that the satellite right (the biggest non-theatrical right) has been relinquished by Zee. On the positive side HEROINE has done well in the overseas (good in US), grossing and#163;153,000 from UK and $389,900 from the US during the opening weekend (21-23 September).

After a good opening weekend Anurag Basu's Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer, BARFI!, managed a rock steady weekday run and collected 8.15 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2 crore from Ahmedabad, 38 lakhs from Surat, 55 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 22 lakhs from Rajkot, 2 crore from Pune, 33 lakhs from Nasik, 25.50 lakhs from Goa, 12.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 7.55 crore from Delhi city, 94 lakhs from Noida, 65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 30 lakhs from Kanpur, 63 lakhs from Lucknow, 12.75 lakhs from Agra, 13.20 lakhs from Allahabad, 3 lakhs from Aligarh, 3.25 lakhs from Meerut, 1.55 crore from Gurgaon, 20 lakhs from Faridabad, 7 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 9 lakhs from Panipat, 40 lakhs from Chandigarh, 42.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 8.25 lakhs from Amritsar, 7.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 6 lakhs from Bhatinda, 8 lakhs from Ambala, 2.65 crore from Calcutta, 9.50 lakhs from Darjeeling, 22.55 lakhs from Siliguri, 6 lakhs from Dhanbad, 6.35 lakhs from Guwahati, 70 lakhs from Nagpur, 33 lakhs from Raipur, 85 lakhs from Indore, 12 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 41 lakhs from Bhopal, 1.35 crore from Jaipur, 11.20 lakhs from Ajmer, 6.25 lakhs from Bikaner, 22.20 lakhs from Kota, 80 lakhs from Hyderabad, 20 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2.55 crore from Bangalore, 8.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 10.55 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 2.55 lakhs from Madras. Netting a good 57 crores during the opening week BARFI! is a hit that has chances of getting to a superhit status! BARFI! has also done superbly in the overseas grossing and#163;485,250 from UK and $1,977,500 from the US till the second weekend (21-23 September).

The other two releases of the week, QAYAMAT HI QAYAMAT and JEENA HAI TOH THOK DAAL, are unmitigated disasters.

Meanwhile Vikram Bhatt's RAAZ 3 took an expected hit from BARFI! at the multiplexes but still managed decent numbers (thanks mainly to the single screens!) as it collected 1 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 45 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 10 lakhs from Surat, 10.75 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 13.20 lakhs from Rajkot, 20 lakhs from Pune, 9 lakhs from Nasik, 2 lakhs from Goa, 2 lakhs from Belgaum, 1.10 crore from Delhi city, 16.50 lakhs from Noida, 14.60 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 22 lakhs from Kanpur, 32.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 7 lakhs from Agra, 4.60 lakhs from Allahabad, 3 lakhs from Aligarh, 3.75 lakhs from Meerut, 15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 4 lakhs from Faridabad, 4.50 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 3 lakhs from Panipat, 3 lakhs from Panipat, 12 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10.25 lakhs from Jalandhar, 3 lakhs from Amritsar, 2.35 lakhs from Ludhiana, 2.55 lakhs from Bhatinda, 2.55 lakhs from Ambala, 25 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 2 lakhs from Dhanbad, 1.65 lakhs from Guwahati, 25 lakhs from Nagpur, 11.25 lakhs from Raipur, 20 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 6 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 40 lakhs from Jaipur, 6 lakhs from Ajmer, 1 lakh from Jodhpur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 3 lakhs from Bikaner, 7 lakhs from Kota, 55 lakhs from Hyderabad, 6.25 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 25 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.15 lakhs from Vijayawada, 2.60 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 4.75 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived). Adding another 14.25 crore, RAAZ 3 has netted 69.50 crore in two weeks from India, and is Emraan's first solo blockbuster. The film has also done well in the overseas (given the cost and cast) grossing and#163;193,350 from UK till the third weekend (21-23 September) and $150,750 from the US.

Concluding with YRF's Kabir Khan directed, EK THA TIGER, the film continues to roar at the ticket window, collecting 11 lakhs from Bombay, 3 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Pune, 6 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Noida, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 3 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Chandigarh, 1 lakh from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Ajmer, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 2 crore, the all time blockbuster Salman-Katrina starrer, EK THA TIGER, has crossed the 200 crore mark in five weeks, just from India. What must be kept in mind is that it is only the second film after Aamir Khan's 3 IDIOTS to enter the coveted double century club. EK THA TIGER is also Salman Khan's biggest overseas grosser with and#163;1,414,600 from UK till the sixth weekend (21-23 September) and $2,650,000 from the US.
