Take heart, track and field fans. Athletics, as the Brits call it, gets started Friday with medal events in the men's shot put (3:30 p.m. ET) and women's 10,000 meters (4:25 p.m. ET).
Swimming has another big day with Missy Franklin, Michael Phelps and Cullen Jones all racing for medals. Franklin and Elizabeth Beisel take the pool for the 200-meter backstroke final at 2:30 p.m. ET, while Jones will race in one of the Games' most exciting events, the 50-meter freestyle at 3:09 p.m. ET. The biggest race of the day will take place at 2:38 p.m. ET when Phelps competes for the last individual medal of his Olympics and perhaps his career in the 100-meter butterfly.
The U.S. women's basketball team continue its quest for gold against the Czech Republic at 5:15 p.m. ET.
In beach volleyball, the United States' April Ross and Jennifer Kessy play at 12 p.m. ET while Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers hit the sand at 1 p.m. ET. We've reached the Round of 16, so this is officially "Win or go home" time outside Buckingham Palace.

One of the more compelling stories of the Games takes the mat when female Saudi judoka Wojdan Ali Seraj Abdulrahim Shahrkhani competes in the judo heavyweight division after being cleared to fight while wearing a headscarf that meets the conservative Muslim mandates of the Saudi Arabian kingdom. This is the first time Saudi Arabia has allowed women to compete in the Olympics. Judo competition starts at 11 a.m. ET.
There are plenty of other medal competitions throughout the day. In rowing, men's single sculls (4:30 a.m. ET), men's quadruple sculls (5:10 a.m. ET), men's pair (5:20 ET) and women's double sculls (5:30 a.m. ET) will all crown champions.
Shooting will award medals in men's 50-meter rifle prone (7 a.m. ET) and men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol (9:30 am. ET). The mixed doubles badminton medal round starts at 10 a.m. ET while men's trampoline will find its champion starting at 10:26 a.m. ET. The men's heavyweight judo round starts at 11:10 a.m. ET followed by cycling action with the men's team pursuit (12:59 p.m. ET) and women's keirin (1:38 p.m. ET). The final medal event of the day before swimming and track take center stage starts at 1:45 p.m. ET with the men's team sabre fencing medal round.
