Ryan Lochte’s mother clears up ‘one-night stand’ comment while Ryan calls her ‘oblivious’

A day after unintentionally taking the media world by storm with comments about her son's dating habits, Ryan Lochte's mother, Ike, tried to qualify her classifying her son's romantic engagements as "one-night stands."

In an interview with USA Today, Ike Lochte said that her comments about Ryan's one-night stands were taken out of context … or that the quote was too brief to let her fully explain why she thinks one-night stands show that her son is actually quite considerate.

"All I wanted to say is that he's so sensitive about not wanting to hurt a girl dating, so he just goes and dates and takes out a girl for maybe one or two dates and doesn't have a relationship because he doesn't have [time] and it's not fair to the women.

"I thought that was so sensitive, but then they turned it around. I'm not used to this. … What kind of mom is going to say that [about her son having one-night stands]? Especially being a mom and having two daughters."

Indeed, the fact that Ike Lochte also has two daughters made the initial comments even more perplexing, or perhaps flippant. In turn, that additional contextual Lochte family knowledge could almost make Ike Lochte seem even more detached from how one-night stands are viewed by the rest of the general public.

Yet Lochte and her son both were quick to blame the media for twisting what she had intended as praise into a comment that painted both herself and her son as insensitive.

"[Ike Lochte is] new to the whole media [experience], so she didn't really understand that they were going to twist it and make it bad," Ryan Lochte told USA Today. "She definitely was like, 'Why would they do that?' She is so oblivious to everything."

That quote certainly helps explain the issue, though it might bring even more attention to the younger Lochte himself. After all, calling one's own mother oblivious isn't the most considerate thing to do, either.
