Black money information can't be made public: PM

New Delhi, Jan 19 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday made it clear that information on black money stashed in tax havens abroad can't be made public as it will entail violations of its treaty obligations.

'The information will not be made public. It will be a violation of the treaty,' Manmohan Singh told reporters when asked about the government's stand on black money stored by Indians in tax havens abroad.

'There is no instant solution to bring back what is called black money. We have got some information and that has been provided to us for use in the collection of taxes,' he added.

As per the guidelines of the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), India has signed independent treaties with a host of countries and territories to share information on illegal transfers, often referred to as black money.

Manmohan Singh's remarks came on a day the Supreme Court voiced displeasure over the government's reluctance in providing full information on the black money stashed by Indians in foreign banks, saying it was a theft of national wealth and amounted to 'plunder' of the nation.

BJP president Nitin Gadkari Tuesday had alleged that the government's reluctance to disclose names points the needle of suspicion towards it and dared the Manmohan Singh government to make public the names of Indians who have deposited black money in tax havens.

The Corruption from root had been developed by Congress, so if it has to be revealed then first stands the nehru family followed by DMK family. Then how do you expect the robot in the name of PM to operate against the program called Sonia.

This is a very poor & unfortunate statement by Hon'ble PM. We expect more positive attitude in this context.

Hang me if Nehru Family and congress leaders do not form majority in the list of looting India and stashing them in foreign banks.

The other day In Delhi I saw three policemen beating a man in rags in a busy street. I do not know the reason fr the beating. I assume it might have been a pettiy theft of a hungry man. It is ironic that the prime minister of India from Delhi has given a statement which is nothing short of protecting the white collar criminals who have plundered India. This my friends is Democracy Indian Style.

I wholly agree with the above observation. On the contrary, the U.S. government recently asked of the Swiss govt. to disclose the cash reserves of U.S. residents. However, political cronyism exists almost everywhere. For example, in the U.S. we are witnessing a proverbial battle between ordinary citizens of various States and powerful labor unions which apparently have a stranglehold on the nation's economy and are often encouraged and defended by their friends in the government! The solution to these problems is real honesty and transparency in the ways governments operate and the power is returned to the individual. It can be argued that power does lie in the hands of the people who can try and determine the direction of the country through elections but, unfortunately, some organizations are too powerful and influence the people's judgment. Believe me there are just enough gullible people in every country unfortunately just too many in countries such as India who are easily swayed.

I wholeheartedly agree with V's observations. Political cronyism exists everywhere and it is subtler in some countries than in others. For example, here in the U.S., recently the government wanted Swiss banks to provide details of bank accounts held by private citizens and corporations with a view to collecting more taxes. On the outside, it looks very noble but when subject to close scrutiny, it will be revealed that the party in power is going after mostly its political rivals and their associates. This sort of nepotism is also, observed in political appointments and organizations such as public sector employee unions but that discussion is for another day.

The only agenda of this Govt. lead by Sonia/Manmohan & co. is disturbing the state govts ruled by non Congress parties (like W.B.,Gujrat,Bihar etc.) by using CBI and delivering bogus statements/letters and the only thing this Govt. does is backing its corrupted ministers and businessmen.

ye log kuchh bhi nahi bata sakte, kyoki in sabki apni pol bhi khulegi. India ka kuchh nahi hone wala jab tak curreption khatam nahi hoga, aur wo kbhi ho nahi sakta. yaha to bus amir aur amir ho raha hai, aur garib aur jyada garib ho raha hai. pis kaun raha hai medium varg jis par is mehngai ki maar pad rahi hai. insaan na to jeene layak hai na marne layak. khrche har week me bad jaate hai, lekin salary ek saal me badate hue bhi co. wale rote hai. govt job general kote ke liye hai nahi. general kota to bus pareshaiyo ke liye bana hai. yaha par to aisa PM hona chahiye jo jhatpat faisla kare, public ke bbare me pehle soche aur apni jeb ke baare me nahi. jo ye sab mantri change karke kya saabit karna chahti hai sarkar ki hum sab ek hi thali ke chtte batte nahi hai. India me sarkar chahe koi bhi hi congress ya BJP, aam public ke baare me koi nahi sochta. ek hi chara hai sansad ke andar ghus kar itna maaro ki saare ke saare haath jode, aam public ki taaqat dikhao

Politics and money are obsolete. Technology and automation is our savior. Politics=corruption and bribery. Money=more corruption and mind control. We need a new paradigm. Google the Zeitgeist movement and venus project. If you don't want to do that, Youtube automation and see how the future of labor is with mechanization.

This present party ruling is to be termed as Corrupt party instead of Congress party. Whenever there is question of price rise or 2G, CWG and other matters, the spokes person for congress in Times now TV says that even during the BJP/NDA time this happend so people have to bear with this. Wha this Congress sorry Corrupt party does not know is that NDA was voted out because of mismangement and price rise of Onions etc. If this party also wants to follow NDA way then why they have to rule. They can withdraw and allow NDA to take over. Even the PM says these words in press conferences and else where. He was given a second chance by the people of this country expecting that the economy will be better, prices will be under control and corruption will reduced to a minimum. But now we all know that is a mith.

I was trying to analyse which party will be good for India. Congress(Corrupt) out of question now. BJP - after yeddy's mis-rule and corrruption, they will compete with congress in corruption. Lalu Prasad Yadav,-- he is also known for fodder case. Mayawati, - there are many scams and notes garland is a proof that she will sell this country like the present government. Who will be good for us. A new party with new persons should come out and all of us choose that party to rule, atleast to teach all these present parties.

Even the IAS/IPS/IFS are under cloud. Yesterday in Times now TV, it was aired that two IAS officers, Husband and Wife looted to the tune of 360 crores of rupees meant for Bhopal victimes. Shameless people, they are looting the downtroden and helpless victims.

I request all the people of India have signing campain for disclosing the black money holders in Swiss and other Banks and send this to PM, President, Chief Justice of Supreme Court and Press. This way the government cannot hold things back.

Its shame if PM himself deny to disclouse names of all whose money is involved......I think its automatically linked to all congress party workers whose depositing money & PM is backing them.....Its shame....plzz read below if names disclose what will happen & PM dont want india to have it...Our Indians' Money - 70, 00,000 Crores Rupees In Swiss Bank

      1) Yes, 70 lakhs crores rupees of India are lying in Switzerland banks. This is the highest amount lying outside any country, from amongst 180 countries of the world, as if India is the champion of Black Money.

      2) Swiss Government has officially written to Indian Government that they are willing to inform the details of holders of 70 lakh crore rupees in their Banks, if Indian Government officially asks them.

      3) On 22-5-08, this news has already been published in The Times of India and other Newspapers based on Swiss Government's official letter to Indian Government.

      4) But the Indian Government has not sent any official enquiry to Switzerland for details of money which has been sent outside India between 1947 to 2008.. The opposition party is also equally not interested in doing so because most of the amount is owned by politicians and it is every Indian's money.

      5) This money belongs to our country. From these funds we can repay 13 times of our country's foreign debt. The interest alone can take care of the Center s yearly budget. People need not pay any taxes and we can pay Rs. 1 lakh to each of 45 crore poor families.

      6) Let us imagine, if Swiss Bank is holding Rs. 70 lakh Crores, then how much money is lying in other 69 Banks? How much they have deprived the Indian people? Just think, if the Account holder dies, the bank becomes the owner of the funds in his account.

      7) Are these people totally ignorant about the philosophy of Karma? What will this ill-gotten wealth do to them and their families when they own/use such money, generated out of corruption and exploitation?

      8) Indian people have read and have known about these facts. But the helpless people have neither time nor inclination to do anything in the matter. This is like "a new freedom struggle" and we will have to fight this.

      9) This money is the result of our sweat and blood.. The wealth generated and earned after putting in lots of mental and physical efforts by Indian people must be brought back to our country.

      10) As a service to our motherland and your contribution to this struggle, please circulate at least 10 copies of this note amongst your friends and relatives and convert it into a mass movement.

The PM's hesitation to disclose the names of the black money holders, seems that there is a possibility of Mrs.Sonia& co, Karunanidhi & co, and Sharad Pawar &Co., will be in the list. So Our Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan Singh, is only a rubber stamp to all these above said people. So how can we expect that Mr.Manmohan Singh ji will allow the Swiss bank to release the name of blackmoney holders.
So there is no use of asking the PM the justice. Because he may also involved.

Accumulating Black Money is not a Violation of any law, whereas disclosing the names in public would certainly be a violation....

What a corrupt govt. this is. Every time they rule, common man goes for a toss. The price hikes like anything. black marketing always on its best. Share mkt swings back and forth everyday from which these guys only makes money.
Even after all this they call them a best party to rule. Its all @#$%.
We call Manmohan Singh a Honest man, how can we say him honest? The person who gets support from kind of Lalu are they honest? Those who supports people like Raja, Kalmadi etc are they Honest?
Look at price of petrol, gas, vegetables, fruits, pulses its all hell and its all because we choose such govt. Look at the top 5 CMs of the country - Gujrat, Bihar, Chattisgarh, jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, they all are non congress. Look at the growth there.
Cong used to support Lalu earlier got all the cream when he was ruling. As soon as Lalu lost last time, this time they got separated and started to make allegation on them , and still they are called as honest govt?
Rahul Gandhi, is he the only Youth in the whole country? Just because he belongs to Gandhi family? Is he the only person who is capable to make India better? @#$%. He is the worst ever politician in Indian.
We consider Sheela Dikshit as one of the best CM, but if we compare the growth with other states, Delhi is far far behind that too being a Capital of India. She took all the money in CWG and made kalmadi the whole culprit.

This whole nature of Treaty is confusing, How can a treaty be signed to protect people from being prosecuted for stashing black money abroad? and how can a govenment not include in the treaty the provision to get this very black money back?
    • Indian_Citizen  •  1 year 4 months ago
I dont know how many of you here realised, but the amount of money "plundered" by Congress is proportionate to the amount of wealth plundered from India by invading armies in ancient and medieval history.

We had Mahmud Ghazni, we had Nadir Shah, we had the British and now we have the Congress Party of India. Is India forever destined to be robbed and plundred like this?

In between all these scandals we will be celebrating a Happy Republic Day on 26 January, sounds like a black comedy. What kind of republic is this where a bunch of politicians form the government to rob the public and plunder public wealth? At times i feel India was better off under British rule, atleast we could have consoled ourselves that foreigners are looting us, but now it is out own people. Even the British did some decent work in infrastructure, governence, law and order, but it is hopeless with this current Congress dynasty.

Why is it so hard for you to disclose the names Mr. Manmohan "Corrupt" Singh? You did not hesitate when you robbed the country, why are you feeling embarrassed now? Is it because the top three names among the people who robbed India are Sonia "Madame" Gandhi, Rahul "Yuvraj" Gandhi and Manmohan "Corrupt" Singh?

congress making India fastest country of overgrowths at the same time making the rich community more rich and poor community as more poor, so here we have to understand that they are good developers at the same time we have to understand that a small govt officer got 1000 rs he got arrested(because govt order comes to arrest) but a minister got millions and billions of rs. (govt order comes that save him in any case)the difference is a small govt officer gets it for him self but a minister getting it for the next election and for the next generation, but only thing i can say GOD BLESSES INDIA TO??????????????????????????
      • lion 1 year 4 months ago
i agree with you because our honorable pm is saying that we know the people who owns the black money but we are not able to got them -- here we have to understand that our pm and their party's are trying to get commission's from that black money, may it can be under dealing for their party;s but any way what we discuss its not going to be worthy in our country because every citizen of India is like a barking dogs so we cant bite for example the petrol price was increased every citizen is effecting but we are just talking we can't take any action
and our govt is also very clever that they don't increase the diesel price because if they increase the business mans will get less profit and they will able to get good commissions
so according to me this govt is only targeting of growth but they dont care of the normal peoples life that is 85 %of the indians are suffering to live their life and many of them don't have sourse to live

so what our govt is going to do

Am I the only one who feels that things in India on the corruption front have now gone out of control and that the Army should now confiscate the passport of all the Congress-UPA leaders and put them under house arrest till WE THE PEOPLE have investigated all these people. Then like Saudi Arabia, we chop off the hands of all those who stole from our country and hang the likes of Sharad Pawar, a mass murderer who caused the deaths of the thousands of people because grains rotten in godowns.
