New Delhi, Oct 13 (ANI): Taking potshots at former Union Minister Virbhadra Singh over allegations that he had received money from a private steel company, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday asked the ruling Congress Party to decide whether it is with the common people or with the corrupt.
"Sonia Gandhi has asked Virbhadra Singh to lead campaign of Himachal Pradesh assembly polls next month. This itself is a serious matter. After these fresh allegations, the Congress should decide whether it is with the common people or with the corrupt," said BJP leader Balbir Punj.
The Congress Party hit back at the BJP on the issue, and alleged that the opposition had levelled fabricated charges against Singh, as the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections are approaching.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has levelled fabricated, false, baseless allegations to fulfill its political interest, as elections in Himachal Pradesh is round the corner," said Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.
Meanwhile, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Mohammad Salim said that instead of taking action against the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats, the government and Congress leadership was attacking the accusers.
"The Congress leadership is not taking action against the corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. They are not conducting proper inquiry rather they are lambasting the accusers," he said.
Virbhadra Singh, however, dismissed all allegations levelled against him, and threatened legal action against all the people behind the 'motivated campaign'.'
"This is totally false, malicious and motivated and I strongly deny this. Furthermore I am willing to face any inquiry in this regard by any agency. It is a cheap political stunt and nothing more," he said.
The former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister's statement came in the wake of reports in a section of the media claiming that he and several others received payoffs from ISPAT Industries. (ANI)
