New Delhi, Nov. 20 (ANI): With barely 48 hours left for the Winter Session of Parliament, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders will meet here on Tuesday to devise a plan to corner the Congress-led UPA Government on various issues of national interest.
The BJP will also decide the party's decision on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress's plans to move a no-confidence motion against the UPA Government on FDI and other issues in the Lok Sabha.
BJP leader Balbir Punj earlier on Monday said that his political outfit welcomes Banerjee's plan to move a no-confidence motion against the government in the Winter Session of Parliament.
Punj, however, said the BJP was keeping all options open in its endeavor to take the Manmohan Singh Government to task for coming up with reforms hurting the sentiments of the common man of the country.
"We have all options open. We will coordinate with every political party, which is ready to resist the anti-people policies of this government and we will definitely coordinate with Mamata Banerjee and we welcome her initiative," he said.
Senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta also made it clear on Monday said his party would not bail out the UPA Government if Banerjee brings a no-confidence motion against it during the Winter Session of Parliament.
Dasgupta, however, said he had no idea about Banerjee's plans because he had not received any letter from her or had had a conversation with her.
"Our position is very clear. If Mamata Banerjee is able to collect 50 members to support their no-confidence motion in the House, then it will be automatically admitted and there will be discussion. And after the discussion, there will be a vote. If the vote takes place after the motion is admitted having the support of 50 people, we shall definitely take no steps to bail out the government," he added.
Moreover, DMK chief M. Karunanidhi yesterday made it clear that his party will not support the Centre's decision to allow foreign investment in the sector.
"We are not in favour of the decision to allow FDI (in multi-brand retail)," he told mediapersons in Chennai.
DMK, which is a key constituent of the ruling UPA Government, had earlier refused to clarify its stand on the decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail.
The CPI (M), however, yesterday virtually rejected Trinamool Congress' appeal to support a no-confidence motion to be brought by it, and said that such a move would only help the government cover up all its "wrong" policies.
"A no-confidence motion (in Lok Sabha) will only help the government cover up all wrong measures it has taken and claim parliamentary mandate, as it has the numbers to defeat such a motion," said CPI (M) General Secretary Prakash Karat.
"I hope the Opposition will come to an understanding to put the government in the dock," he added.
Mamata Banerjee earlier on Saturday announced that her party would bring a no confidence motion against the UPA Government in the Winter Session of Parliament.
"Our party's parliamentary leader in Parliament Sudip Bandyopadhay will move the no-confidence on the first day of the winter session," she told a press conference in Kolkata after a meeting with party MPs.
Stating that instead of moving notices under Rule 184, which entails voting or 193, which does not, Banerjee said "we have decided to bring the no-confidence motion to seek the ouster of the government and formation of a new government through fresh election."
"I request other political parties support our motion," she added.
The Winter Session of Parliament will begin on November 22.
The TMC had parted ways with the UPA coalition over differences on the fresh economic reforms introduced by the government in mid-September, including the decision to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail.
Parliament did not function for the entire Monsoon Session over the demand of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation and cancellation of licences of coal blocks and an independent probe into the coal scam. (ANI)
