Palampur/Delhi/Patna, Oct 27 (ANI): Coming out in support of its chief, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday said that graft allegations against Nitin Gadkari were baseless and he would come out clean.
Gadkari was surrounded by controversy after national daily-revealed reports of his involvement in dubious financial dealings.
According to the report in the media, 18 companies which own 80 percent of the shares in Purti Group, owned by him, are not located on the addresses mentioned on the website of the company.
Senior BJP leader, Sushma Swaraj said Gadkari has bravely asked for a probe against him.
Swaraj raised a doubt over a fair inquiry as she accused federal ruling Congress party of influencing the investigation agencies.
"Gadkari has fearlessly demanded probe against himself and has claimed that he is innocent. Despite knowing the fact that all the investigation agencies work under influence of federal government, he has bravely asked for an inquiry. Thus this issue is not of any relevance any more. Government should do an inquiry and truth will be unravelled," Swaraj told reporters in Palampur.
The row over Gadkari has got many in the BJP apprehensive over whether he should make an appearance for the party in the upcoming state polls campaigns in Himachal Pradesh.
Earlier on Friday (October 26), Gadkari had met senior leaders of party in New Delhi and reportedly offered for resignation in wake of graft charges against him.
Meanwhile, Gadkari left for Mumbai on Saturday morning.
Speaking on similar lines in New Delhi, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi exuded confidence in Gadkari and said the party is with him.
"There is no dilemma over the situation. Party is united on the matter of corruption and scams and we believe these evils should be rooted out of the system. We have ourselves demanded for an investigation and if an inquiry is taking place then we welcome the move," said Naqvi.
General Secretary of Hindu Radical Party, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Bhayyaji Joshi, also came out in Gadkari's support.
Joshi said it would be unfair to accuse anyone one before the probe is completed.
"If there are certain allegations against him then I believe then the matter should be probed as it would not be appropriate to accuse anyone on the basis of any doubt," said Joshi in Patna.
However, Joshi continued to refrain himself from the controversy over Gadkari and said that BJP would decide whether Gadkari will continue as the chief of the party or not. (ANI)
