Mumbai, Sept 18 (ANI): Tennis ace Mahesh Bhupati on Tuesday took on the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and accused it of practicing "dirty politics."
Addressing a press conference here, the multiple Slam winner charged current AITA president Anil Khanna of being a "dictator" and creating a rift between him and his long time doubles partner Leander Paes.
"AITA is trying to create rift between Leander and me. Khanna has enjoyed the Lee-Hesh rift. He fired at me off Leander's shoulder," Bhupati said.
Calling the recent selection ban imposed on him by the AITA "a personal vendetta" he said that he had always felt banned by the governing body.
"The AITA ban has crossed the line. It cannot question my integrity and patriotism," he added.
AITA recently banned Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna for selection in Davis Cup, till June 2014, sticking to a young Indian side.
The ban means Bhupati and Bopanna will not be considered for selection to play for India till June 30, 2014.AITA had dropped the two on disciplinary grounds after they rebelled against the selection committee's decision to pair with Leander Paes for the London Olympics 2012. (ANI)
