New Delhi, Oct. 29 -- The police on Monday claimed to have busted a betting racket operating during a Champions League T20 match and arrested three persons in this connection. According to police, bets worth over Rs. 5 lakh were placed. A TV set and six mobile phones were recovered from them. The arrested persons have been identified as Rajesh Gupta, Mohammad Yameen and Gopi Kishan Goyal.
Sindhu Pillai, deputy commissioner of police (north), said the three persons were apprehended from Tilak Bazar in Lahori Gate area on Sunday when the match between Highveld Lions and Sydney was in progress.
"One mobile phone was being used as "dabba" (voice hot line box) for receiving the rates and other mobile phones were used to accept bets. The match summary report of the total betting till the time of the raid was found to be more than R5 lakh. The syndicate had betted for more than R55 lakh in the earlier matches of the series," said Pillai.
