New Delhi, Dec 5 (ANI): Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid met Bangladesh Interior Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir on Wednesday in New Delhi and both leaders discussed the terms of the extradition treaty, which is to be signed in January 2013.
India's Interior (Home) Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and Alamgir on Tuesday had agreed to sign an extradition treaty.
Shinde said that it was agreed that Revised Travel Agreement (RTA) as well as extradition treaty would be finalised and signed in January 2013 during his visit to Dhaka.
Currently there is no formal extradition treaty between the two countries.
Both the governments agreed to allow development works within 150 yards of the zero line on the Bangladesh-India border.
The ministers agreed that the border guards would not resort to firing along the frontier unless fired upon or attacked by militants or armed criminals.
Alamgir said Dhaka would consider New Delhi's request to send the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militant, Anup Chetia, to India once Chetia's plea is decided by the apex court.
Alamgir is on a five-day official visit to New Delhi for bilateral talks.
Recently, there was significant improvement in the trade relations between the two countries. In 2010-11, two-way trade crossed the US$ 5 billion mark as a result of a significant increase in Bangladesh's exports to India (68 percent over the previous year) and India's exports to Bangladesh (43 percent over the previous year).
Currently Bangladesh imports more than $4.0 billion worth of products from India while India import less than $1.0 billion worth of products annually.
Furthermore, traditional economic and cultural links between India and Bangladesh have been greatly enhanced with Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina visiting India in January, 2010 followed by a return visit by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in September 2011. (ANI)
