Indian shares climb; Ranbaxy, software shares pull up Sensex

MUMBAI, India (AP) _ Indian shares climbed Monday propped up by pharmaceutical company Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. and software firms.

The Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark 30-stock Sensex rose 124 points, or 0.7 percent, to 16,861 points. On the broader National Stock Exchange, the 50-company S&P Nifty index climbed 30 points, or 0.6 percent, to 5,013 points.

Among the biggest gainers was pharmaceutical firm Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. up 5.3 percent at 494 rupees.

Software firms gained with Satyam Computer Services Ltd. up 3.4 percent at 490 rupees, followed by Wipro Ltd.

advancing 1.3 percent at 508 rupees, Infosys Technologies Ltd. up 1.3 percent at 1,773 rupees and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.

up 1.07 percent at 927 rupees.
