Weather forecast for the Asia-Pacific region, AS

Thu, May 8 06:29 PM

Tropical Storm Rammasun will travel north-northwestward well east of the Philippines Friday. It will intensify into a Category 1 typhoon by Friday before intensifying into a Category 2 typhoon on Saturday.

No landfall is expected for the next several days, and the storm will be monitored closely. Farther to the north, a developing low pressure system will move off the coast of southeastern China just south of Shanghai.

It will strengthen considerably while moving through the East China Sea toward the Ryukyu Islands and will generate considerable precipitation from the coast of southeast China through Kyushu. The heaviest rain will likely fall in the East China Sea.

Rain will gradually increase in Honshu. A broad trough of low pressure will bring cooler weather to northern China and Sea of Japan.

More showers and thunderstorms are anticipated throughout the Bay of Bengal area. Tokyo's temperatures will rise into the upper 10s C, while Shanghai will also experience temperatures in the upper 10s.

Seoul's will rise into the lower 20s. For Australia, a large high pressure system will keep much of the country dry.

The one exception to this will be in the Cape Leeuwin area, where a low pressure system will approach the region and provide showers late in the day. Cool temperatures are expected in the eastern portion of the country.

Sydney's will rise into the lower 20s, while Melbourne will see temperatures in the upper 10s. Brisbane's will rise into the mid-20s.
