BANGALORE, India (AP) _ An Indian doctor who was convicted of withholding information about a botched terror attack on a crowded airport in Scotland last year returned to India on Thursday after being deported. Sabeel Ahmed 26, had pleaded guilty to receiving an e-mail about the mission from his older brother Kafeel Ahmed two days before he attempted to ram a Jeep into Glasgow's airport although he did not read the e-mail until after the attack took place.
Sabeel Ahmed was sentenced to 18 months in prison last month. He was released early because he had already served half his sentence and agreed to leave Britain.
Sabeel Ahmed arrived in the southern Indian city of Bangalore early Thursday. Airport security whisked him out through a separate exit to avoid reporters and photographers waiting outside.
His mother, Zakia Ahmed, told reporters outside the family's home that the family was very happy to have him back home. Kafeel Ahmed's explosive-laden Jeep was halted only yards from airline passengers at Glasgow airport on June 30, 2007, when he and another man attempted to ram the vehicle into the airport as part of a botched plot that also included plans to bomb a London nightclub.
Kafeel Ahmed was severely burned in the airport attack and died weeks later in a hospital.
