London, Sep 27 (IANS) WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange addressed a UN meeting in New York by satellite link from the Ecuadorian embassy here in the British capital.
Assange Wednesday accused the US of persecuting his organisation and torturing Bradley Manning, the US army private accused of supplying WikiLeaks with hundreds of diplomatic and military cables, the Daily Mail reported.
Assange accused the US of detaining Manning without charge and mistreating him.
He told the UN that Manning was "degraded, abused and psychologically tortured".
He also accused the US of harassing his organisation claiming the "FBI produced 42,135 pages of WikiLeaks-related activity; less than 8,000 concern Manning".
"It is time for the US to cease its persecution of WikiLeaks, our people and our sources," Assange was quoted as saying.
Assange has spent 100 days in political asylum at the embassy in an effort to avoid extradition to Sweden where he is wanted on rape and sex abuse charges.
He arrived at the embassy June 19, after a court ruled he could be sent for trial.
