Kolkata, Sep. 27 (ANI): An anti U.S. rally called by a Muslim group turned violent here, as the protestors tried to break into the American Centre.
The rally was called to protest the alleged anti-Islam film that mocks Prophet Mohammad and shows him in poor light.
The police managed to pacify the crowd and bring them under control, preventing any untoward incident.
The film titled 'Innocence of Muslims', and directed by Sam Bacile, a US national, has led to violent protests worldwide, including demonstrations in Chennai and Jammu and Kashmir in India.
Muslim groups in India have called for a ban on the film, with one such group filing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Bombay High Court.
The Kashmir valley was rocked by protests a week ago as demonstrators led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik took to the streets, leading to clashes with the police.
The film triggered violent clashes in Libya where the US ambassador was killed in an attack on the US embassy in Benghazi.
The crudely made film has triggered protests in at least 20 countries since excerpts were posted online, and more than 30 people have been killed in violence linked to the film. (ANI)
