Ambika Soni, Subodh Kant Sahai resign too

New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) A day before Sunday's cabinet reshuffle, three more ministers have resigned.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni, Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai and Social Justice Minister Mukul Wasnik met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submitted their papers.

Soni confirmed her resignation to IANS. Sahai's resignation was confirmed by a close aide.

These resignations come a day after S.M. Krishna put in his papers as external affairs minister Friday.

Sahai's close aide told IANS that the former minister will now focus on party work.

"He will be taking up a more active role in the party organisation," the aide said.

Ambika, Subodh, Mukul Wasnik resigns ahead of Cabinet reshuffle Ahead of the Cabinet reshuffle on Sunday, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik and Union Minister for Tourism Subodh Kant Sahay today resigned from the cabinet following the foot steps of Minister of External Affairs, S M Krishna. The reshuffle exercise is aimed at revamping the image of the beleaguered UPA government ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha polls and to include several young faces. It is also being speculated that the reshuffle is pushed by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's desire to play an increasingly central role in the working of the party.

Social Justice Minister Mukul Wasnik, meanwhile, told reporters Saturday that he had also submitted his resignation Friday evening.

"I have already submitted my resignation to the Prime Minister on Friday evening," Wasnik said, after meeting Manmohan Singh Saturday.

According to government sources, Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Mahadev Khandela also resigned Saturday.

A cabinet reshuffle is scheduled for 11.30 a.m. Sunday.
