Jalandhar, Nov. 24 -- Bollywood actor Aamir Khan has condemned the arrest of two girls in Maharashtra for their comment on Facebook.
Khan was in Jalandhar on Saturday for the promotion of his forthcoming film 'Talaash'. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Khan condemned the arrest of Rinni Shrinivas and Shaheen Dhada, saying it was an unfortunate incident and he was happy to hear that actionwas being taken against the police officials responsible for the incident."
He said, "The phenomenon to curb the freedom of speech is not new, it's been there for ages. But with technology advancements it is going to get difficult to curb the expression of speech since there are various media through which people can express themselves freely. Democracy is about freedom and not curtailment. Individuals, filmmakers everybody should be allowed to express themselves through any medium freely."
The actor, who had supported Anna Hazare's anti-corruption movement, said, "I am not pro or for an individual or a party. I support the concept of anti-corruption, not individuals or parties. I favour that a stringent law should be constituted against corruption. My stance is clear. I won't campaign for any political party in near future. I have no plans of joining politics."
The actor said that through 'Satyamev Jayate' he had tried to address the issue of 25,000 women in Punjab who had been abandoned by their NRI spouses. He said there were many such issues that were of great national concern and needed to be addressed seriously.
The actor said his team had already begun research for 'Satyamev Jayate-2' and they were looking into more social issues that had to be bought forth.
The actor, known as a marketing genius and a man with out-of-box promotion ideas, said his marketing team had tried to get in agreement with the search engine giant Google on their homepage to replace the search button with 'Talaash' for a short period , but Google had refused this as it was against their policy.
The actor brushed away rumours of promoting his movie from Jalandhar to compete with the promotion strategy of Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'. He said he wasn't even aware that Shah Rukh Khan had come to the city to promote his film.
One of his team members said that the actor after touring the city for the promotion of the film would have dinner at an undisclosed dhaba.
