Akshay marches his way towards 100 crore club

HOUSEFULL 2 is doing very well at the box office and has taken one of the best starts in the history of Bollywood. Though record breaking films like 3 IDIOTS and BODYGUARD are quite far away, the film's collections are comparable to some of the biggest films in the recent times and could well be challenging the highest grosser this year - AGNEEPATH.

For Akshay too the film's super-success has come like a shot in the arm because there were quite a few adverse forces threatening to pull it down. The biggest danger seemed to be IPL but that has been diluted as well with the film collecting 50 crores in its first four days itself, hence crossing the lifetime collections of his last release DESI BOYZ. While the TEES MAAR KHAN total of 65 crores has now been more or less achieved in the one week run of HOUSEFULL 2 itself, it would be a matter of time before collections of HOUSEFULL, SINGH IS KINNG and WELCOME (all in 70-75 crores range) are surpassed.

"The film is all set to get into the profit making zone in the second weekend itself and from this point on the race begins towards the 100 crores mark. So far it is Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Ajay Devgn who were the exclusive members of this club. Now count Akshay in this list as well", the source continues, "Sajid Nadiadwala too is ecstatic because this is now the highest grosser of his production house and that too for his close friend Akshay."

Though Akshay is not getting into any premature celebrations as of now, those in the industry are vouching for the fact that he is all set to score a double bill now. "ROWDY RATHORE is looking huge as well and should make it two in a row for him when it comes to 100 crores being earned. All those detractors who questioned his stardom would now have to hunt for some other excuses", says another filmmaker who has delivered quite a few successful films with him.

Expectedly, Akshay was quiet when we tried contacting him. Perhaps he would roar the loudest once the milestone is indeed achieved.
