Guwahati, Sept. 29: The AGP will launch a protest from Monday against unabated alleged rhino poaching in Kaziranga National Park.
Announcing this today, the party's working president Atul Bora said poachers have killed 14 rhinos in Kaziranga in the past nine months and the unofficial figures might rise if the matter is investigated.
"Two rhinos had to meet a tragic death after their horns were chopped off by poachers this week. Without the state government's patronage such heinous crime could not have been committed," he alleged, adding that the AGP was launching the agitation to save the one-horned rhinos.
He said AGP leaders would stage a demonstration in front of Kaziranga's entrance on Monday. They would also launch the next phase of their agitation if rhino poaching does not stop.
Since it will not be possible for all district leaders and workers of AGP to assemble at the park, they will register their protests in their respective districts by burning the effigies of chief minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Rakibul Hussain in front of the head offices of the district forest department, he added.
