'I miss being a villain'

How Adi Irani wishes films were all black & white!

Just like the video killed the radio star, the hero killed the villain. Literally. With films venturing into the 'grey' area, days of the baddy are bordering on extinction, and villains like Adi Irani (who was in town at the launch of Saroj Khan's Dance Academy in Sector 34) are the first causality. "That's right, and now villains make great comedians," laughs Aroona Irani's brother known for his 'devious plans and villainous ploys'. "Oh, I miss being a villain," he says with a heavy heart, lightly accusing the heroes for 'snatching' their jobs. "They are doing all the roles now," Adi is clearly disappointed with the kind of work coming his way and is still praying and hoping that he shoots to limelight just like Amrish Puri. "I'm not exactly happy with what I'm getting, but then there are Punjabi and Gujarati films too, and I feel everyone has a talent, and I get to try everything now."

After acting in films like 'Beta', 'Dil', 'Welcome', 'Kisse Pyaar Karoon', 'Jimmy', 'Daddy Cool', he will now be seen in 'Run Bhola Run' and 'Thank You'. But what's got him excited is direction. "I came into the industry as an assistant director, and worked with Shakti Samanta. Direction was my initial line of work, but acting offer came my way and I thought why not give it a shot at being a hero! That didn't quite work out, so here I am, back to love number one, direction," Adi has already got a story, a thrilled and the film goes on floor this summer. "We are looking for a writer now," he will be making it with best buddy and villain Shiva. "My idea of a film is a balance between real and commercial," says Adi. As for Shiva, it's comedy time, and he too is getting into filmmaking. "But you can look forward to 'Mukti', 'Tum Milo To Sahi', 'Don't Worry, Be Happy', 'Gupchup', 'Chatur Singh'...." Yes Sir!
