Koda set to ignore Vigilance summons

While the Jharkhand Vigilance Bureau has summoned Madhu Koda to appear before it in connection with the disproportionate assets case on December 4, the former chief minister will not be making an appearance on that date.

"Due to engagement in the polls, he has asked the Vigilance Department to fix the date after the elections end on December 18," said Sanjay Murmu, a Koda loyalist, on Friday afternoon.

Responding to a court directive, the Bureau had lodged an FIR accusing Koda, his two associates Binod Kumar Sinha and Sanjay Choudhary and two former ministers Harinarayan Rai and Enos Ekka of amassing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income much before the Enforcement Directorate had booked Koda, Sinha, Choudhary and six others — including ex-ministers Bhanu Pratap Shahi, Kamlesh Singh and Bandhu Tirkey — under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act on October 9.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate has served fresh summons to Shahi, Singh and Tirkey for interrogation on December 4 after they defied its first summons calling upon them to make themselves available for interrogation in New Delhi on November 18.

Incidentally, Shahi, Singh and Tirkey have filed their nominations as candidates of the Jharkhand Navjawan Morcha, NCP and Jharkhand Janadhikar Morcha from Bhavnathpur, Hussainabad and Mander constituencies, respectively.
