GC-11 girls hurt as Safari hits scooter

Two girls of Government College in Sector 11 were injured after their scooter was hit by a Safari car outside the college on Saturday.

The accident, that left both the girls critically injured, led to high drama in the afternoon. The police were investigating till the time of filing of this report and a case was yet to be registered as the girls were unfit to give their statements.

Raghav Mehra, a BCom first year student of GC- 11, was driving his Safari (CH04 A 4270) along the geri route in the afternoon with three of his friends when he hit the Activa scooter of the girls from the rear. Residents of Bapu Dham Colony, Shibana and Puja, students of BA second year, received a jolt and lost their balance.

They fell at a distance and sustained serious injuries. The car, meanwhile, hit the road berm and its rear tyre burst. Eyewitnesses said the car was being driven in a zigzag manner and was seen making rounds of the area earlier too.

A large number of college students and teachers gathered at the spot and the victims were rushed to the Sector-16 hospital by their professor. They were then referred to PGI where their condition is stated to be critical.

Raghav, meanwhile, said a rickshaw came in his way from the wrong side and he turned his car in order to save the rickshaw and hit the scooter in the process.

"Both the girls are unfit to make any statement so we are yet to register a case. We are still investigating," said Inspector Sukhbir Rana, SHO of the Sector-11 police station.
