Hooch tragedy: Court denies bail to two accused cops

Thu, Nov 5 06:11 AM

The Ahmedabad Sessions Court on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of two policemen accused in the July hooch tragedy case. Additional City Sessions Judge V C Barot rejected the applications of Ranjitsinh Ramsinh Dabhi and Baldev Kursibhai Rabari.

The duo, accused of helping bootleggers sell the methanol-laced liquor that had claimed over 100 lives, had filed the bail application on August 19.

The court observed that the offence was of a serious nature and would impact society in a negative manner if bail was granted in the case.

The government has invoked sub-section (1) of Section 268 of the Criminal Procedure Code 1973, whereby the accused have been ordered to be confined in the prison.

The trial in the case will now be carried in-camera in the Sabarmati Central Jail.
