The BJP members led by Ambala Cantonment MLA Anil Vij staged a dharna in front of the Hindustan Petroleum at the 12-Cross Road and then the Indian Oil Company Terminus on the National Highway-1 to press the government to relocate the two oil depots from the city.
He threatened the oil companies to act immediately otherwise the party would form an action committee, which would not allow the depot authorities to move the oil tankers out of the depots for supplies to Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and parts of Uttar Pradesh. He further warned that the party workers would continue their agitation till the government shifted the depots.
Meanwhile, the supplies of petroleum products remained suspended during the dharna since no oil tanker was allowed to enter the terminal. The protesters raised slogans against the government for not implementing the decision. Addressing the agitators, Vij said the government had taken the decision to shift the depots in 2006, but after the change of government, the Hooda government reversed the decision and extended their lease on the plea that the government would be deprived of municipal tax recovered from these oil depots.
