3 Indian players 'breach security'

Hours after the Indian and Australian teams arrived in the city for the fourth ODI on Monday, the Chandigarh Police sent a missive to president of the Punjab Cricket Association to take action against three Indian cricketers for "serious breach of security".

Captain Mahinder Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh reportedly ventured out of the hotel in the evening without security cover. The teams are staying at Hotel Taj in Sector 17.

Sources said Yuvraj went out in his private vehicle around 7.30 pm. When the camp commandant asked him to take security personnel along, he refused.

Dhoni and Harbhajan, too, went out of the hotel without security cover.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Communication) Roshan Lal, the camp commandant, brought the matter to the notice of senior police officers, following which SP (Traffic and Security) H S Doon sent a communiqué to the PCA president.

"It is a blatant violation of rules. We have given them a list of do's and don'ts. The players are meant to inform us three hours in advance if they want to go out. But they went without informing us. We have asked the PCA to take appropriate action," said " Doon.

"In case of any untoward incident, we will be held responsible because of the callousness of these players," he added.

Earlier in the day, the team arrived at the hotel around 4 pm. Instead of heading for practice, the teams chose to get some rest before the say and night match on Monday.

PCA officials said both teams would practise on Monday morning.

Yuvraj had hit headlines before for a similar incident. Two years ago, he had refused to take the team bus to the PCA stadium, adamant to go in the luxury car gifted to him by his father. The police had finally allowed him to take his personal car, but on the condition that a DSP would accompany him.

Roadmap for todayThe stretch leading to the stadium from Sectors 46, 47 in Chandigarh will be closed for vehicular traffic from 2 pm onwardsTraffic will be diverted from three main intersections — Hotel Majestic in Phase IX, Guru Nanak Colony Chowk in Phase X and PCA light point
