Employees of 159 local civic bodies in the state agitating for two months for various demands including implementation of Sixth Pay Commission have decided to call off their agitation as Chief Minister Narendra Modi is suffering from swine flu.
Mahendra Talaviya, president of the Gujarat Nagarpalika Karmachari Mahamandal wrote a letter to state Urban Development Minister Nitin Patel informing about their decision to suspend the agitation and putting off a rally scheduled for November 2.
The agitation had begun from August 27 and employees had resorted to mass casual leave.
Patel had rejected their demand arguing that only 30 local civic bodies of the state were in a position to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. Patel had requested the mahamandal office bearers to come up with a compromise formula.
