National award winning 11-year-old child artiste Sharad Goyekar has more reasons to smile. On Friday, his family was handed over a 2,000 sq ft government land in Junnar taluka for a house.

After Sharad recently got the national award for the best child artiste for Marathi film Tingya his family's plight of living in a ramshackle hut came to light.

It was a dream come true for Goyekars as Sharad's father, Yashwant, was given the land documents by Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue and Forests) A Dange, Divisional Commissioner Dilip Band and Pune District Collector Chandrakant Dalvi at the district collectorate on Friday.

"I am extremely happy," said Sharad. Yashwant said they had requested the district collectorate to help them out with a shelter. "I did rounds of the collectorate earlier. Today I was allotted the land. My son has made me a proud owner of a land," said Goyekar.

Moved by the plight of Goyekars as highlighted in the media, Dalvi, in his discretionary powers, got two gunthas (2,000 sq ft) of government land allotted in the name of Yashwant Goyekar.

"To own a house is a dream of my parents. The dream will now come true. I am staying in Pune and my father has always wished to have a house in our hometown," said Sharad who now attends the Sinhagad Springdale School.

Hailing from a village in Junnar taluka, he herded sheep before he was chosen by director Mangesh Hadavale. The film hurled him into limelight, after which he was sponsored by P D Patil, director of Sinhagad Technical Education Society.
