Five people, including three children, were killed and 18 others injured in a grenade blast at the busy Batamaloo bus stand in Srinagar on Thursday, official sources said.

Unidentified persons hurled a grenade on a Jammu-bound bus at the bus stand located in the periphery of Lal Chowk at around noon, they said.

The injured have been admitted to a hospital, official sources said, adding that no militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The grenade was hurled when the group of labourers from other states were boarding a bus to Jammu on way to their native places.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Khushboo and Adil, children of Mohammad Afroze, the sources said, adding that Afroze fell unconscious at the hospital when he came to know about the death of his two children.

One of the deceased is a woman whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
