Chunk of hotel rooms coming up in Haryana for Games

New Delhi, Nov 5 (IANS) India expects over 100,000 tourists during the Commonwealth Games next year and the government is working overtime to ensure that the required number of hotel rooms are ready, with many hotels being constructed in Haryana, adjoining the national capital, an official said.

Union Tourism Secretary Sujit Banerjee said here Thursday: 'Haryana is providing a major chunk of hotel accommodation for the Commonwealth Games. As per the latest position, 6,632 hotels rooms are those that would be definitely ready by that time, while about 2,161 rooms are in the likely category,' he said while inaugurating a new hotel in Gurgaon in Haryana.

He said of the 6,632 rooms, 4,224 are already functional and 410 rooms will be ready soon. 'We are closely monitoring the progress,' he added.

Banerjee said the union government will be making it easy for hotel owners to construct more hotels fast by arranging speedy loans and expediting grant of licences.

Banerjee said a task force has been constituted to monitor the additional new hotel accommodation coming up in the Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
