Mumbai, Nov. 7 -- A student of IIT-Bombay, Siddharth Charan (18) allegedly committed suicide at his Jodhpur home on Thursday.

The second year physics student, who had reached his home earlier in the day, shot himself with his father's 12 bore gun. His family found him lying in a pool of blood with a suicide note beside him.

A few months ago, the family dealt with the tragedy of losing another son to cancer. Siddharth, who has two sisters, was the second eldest.

The IIT faculty, which looked through his last year's academic record, said he did not come across as a vulnerable student. "We spoke to his roommates, batchmates and friends," said student welfare dean Prakash Gopalan.

"They said he seemed perfectly all right. Even his mentor coordinator did not see anything amiss.

" The dean did not know of the suicide note. His batchmates are shocked.

"I had no idea he was worried about something or why had he gone home. He was average at his books," said a batchmate on condition of anonymity.
