Sensex gains 1.2%, hits 17-month high

New Delhi, Oct. 14 -- The Indian equity markets followed the global escalation, with the benchmark Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex rising 204 points or 1.2 per cent to close at a new 17-month high of 17,231.

The wider Nifty too gained 64 points or 1.3 per cent to close at a new 17 month high of 5,118. All Asian markets except Japan's Nikkei closed in the green on Wednesday.
