DISTRICT JUDGE Kanpur Subhash Chandra has directed a rape accused to marry the victim within 15 days or the bail granted to him would be treated as cancelled. Chandra said this while considering the bail application of one Ravi Singh, a rape accused, on Tuesday.

"This bail of the accused-applicant shall automatically stand cancelled if he does not marry the informant within 15 days," said Chandra and also directed the accused to submit an undertaking in this regard. The victim is pregnant.

Ravi Singh is a resident of Fai Shab Ka Hata. He has a case registered against him at Cantonment police station under section 376 of IPC. It is alleged that Ravi had a physical relationship with the victim for the last one year.

He had assured the girl of marriage. But on the date fixed for marriage in a temple, he did not turn up.

He was arrested on July 4, 2008, and is presently under judicial custody in Kanpur jail. However, Ravi's mother Sheela Devi had filed an affidavit before the court stating that she would arrange a marriage between the accused with the victim.
