One corner of your home can change the ambience of the room when decorated with a theme. If ethnic Indian items and ceramic figurines are not to your taste, give your living room a Far Eastern flavour with the 'Hello Tokyo' range, now available at Moon River's new store in Khan Market.
While Japanese is the current theme at the store, much more will be on offer in future. Every two weeks, the store will fill its racks with a new theme - from country-based to craft-based.
"Homes need to be styled," says Neha Singhania, interior decorator. "And styling needs to be changed every few months as we no longer treat our homes as a [static] dwelling space.
It's a place that needs a change, just as any of us do." 'Hello Tokyo' reflects the Japanese philosophy of combining everyday functionality with aesthetic design.
The racks display Japanese tableware, decor pieces and origami cards. Sushi plates in various designs, pairs of emperor and empress dolls and samurai dolls all make you want to add a bit of Japan to your life.
Radhika Gupta, creative director, Moon River, says, "It has become very important to have a concept in your mind before redecorating a room - like a certain basic colour palette for the walls, upholstery and decor items - so that the space looks easy on eyes and is not jarring to the senses. And giving a definite theme to the space adds character to the room.
" Theme decor is obviously very 'of the moment', going by the demand for it. One single theme may be spread over the entire house or apartment, or different rooms may wear different looks.
Preeti Chaddha, interior decorator, says, "Many clients look for a theme for each room. In one room, they want a Gothic look, in another, they want a Zen feel.
" Whether it's an and #252;ber-stylish Japanese theme throughout the house or a few Oriental pieces to create points of interest in various rooms, the Moon River collection is ideal, especially as the smaller bric-a-brac allow you to easily and quickly freshen up your home without undertaking any heavyduty refurbishing.
