Now, Raj to launch party mouthpiece

Wed, Jul 9 12:50 AM

Raj Thackeray will soon have his own mouthpiece. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena founder and chief announced that he has started preparations to launch a newspaper to communicate with his cadre and propagate his campaign against north Indians.

According to party sources, the mouthpiece will feature articles by prominent citizens and cartoons by Thackeray. Angry with the media for being critical of his campaign, Thackeray said he wants to connect directly with citizens.

Addressing a function at Borivli on Sunday, he said: "The arrogance of the North Indians has not gone and they think that Raj Thackeray is keeping quiet. Wait till July 11 and see what we do.

" Raj has even tried to get the title Maratha for his newspaper. Maratha, founded by Marathi stalwart Acharya Atre, played a pivotal role in the Samyukta Maharashtra movement of the 1950s.

Atre's daughter Shirish Pai refused to part with the title. Thackeray seems to be emulating his uncle, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, who had launched Marmik in 1960 to propagate his drive against south Indians in the city.
