Harbhajan Singh blames his passion for the game for his bad temper on the field, but he says he learning to be calm now. He told NDTV in an interview this weekend that the passion and the need to win for his country were behind the widely-publicised scrap when he slapped Sreesanth at the April 25 match between Mumbai and Punjab, following which he was temporarily suspended from playing in the IPL. "I never plan to get into trouble.
I'm very passionate about my game. I just love playing for my country.
" He said that while playing he is so emotionally involved that he can't be indifferent. "I'll try to control my emotions and other things and #8230; What happened was God's way of teaching me something," said an optimistic Bhajji.
He has been in and out of controversies all of the past year. However, following the racism charges against the bowler, he received support from the whole country.
Did his actions after that let everyone down? "I want to thank everyone who supported me through difficult times. All I can say is, trust me, I won't let them down again.
" He said that now his actions will only be for the better, on the field and off it. Being in control is also the big lesson Bhajji learned from his experience as captain of the Mumbai IPL team.
He says there was just one lesson: "To be calm, and in control." Now he's back, practising with the boys at the NCA for Sri Lanka, how does it feel? "I'm working hard at my game.
It's nice to be back with the boys and training with them. I'm really looking forward to the Sri Lanka tour.
" In his 10-year cricketing journey, Bhajji says there've been things he would have done differently, but all his mistakes are a part of the learning process. His teammates, he adds, have always been a source of support, a sign of the positive relationship they have fostered over the years.
"You have to earn respect in the dressing room. They know I can deliver in a difficult situation.
I've done that for them, myself and for my country. It's always great to have team support when you require it most.
It's like a family and we support each other.".
