When it comes to dance, Delhi's spoilt for choice. Whether you want to go desi or prefer Western, whether you choose grace or action, couples moves or solo turns, there's has no shortage of dance schools where you can learn to move those two left feet.
But what tops the charts are social dance forms - tango, salsa, belly dancing and club dancing. Two to Tango Stina Almroth, founder of Delhi Tango, teaches the Argentine Tango.
Originating in Buenos Aires in the late 19th century, there are influences of European, African and native American dance forms in this style. Delhi Tango organises classes at at its institute in Gulmohar Park (Ph 98100 03712) and the form taught is more flexible than the traditional version.
Pick from the Basics, Beyond Basics or Practicas module; there are four classes a month. Strictly Ballroom Whether you want to lose weight, learn a new skill or impress somebody, Ballrumours (Ph 9810108007) helps you to put your best foot forward.
They teach jive, waltz, cha-cha-cha, merengue, salsa, tango, lambada, club dancing and swing. Classes are held in various locations with different time slots.
The monthly fee is Rs 1,400. Delhi Belly Salsa India at Masjid Moth (Ph 98112 22186) holds one-hour belly dancing classes on Wednesday nights priced at Rs 1,500.
Weekend slots are available too and the nuances are taught over two levels: Level One for beginners and level Two for more advanced moves. Classical ho jaye Teaching Indian classical dance since 1977 is Sonal Mansingh's Centre For Indian Classical Dances in Defence Colony (Ph 24335581).
The mudras taught will increase your concentration and keep your BMI on a tight leash. The Centre offers courses for those who want to learn dance purely as a hobby as well as for the professional minded.
Classes are held twice a week. Odissi and bharatnatyam are the popular choices here and students range from 8 year olds and beyond.
